Odisha Government To Set Up Water Academy At Bhubaneswar

The Odisha Government decided to build up Odisha Water Academy which will help to heighten the quality of service in the water and the wastewater sector. The academy will also guarantee more dependable health and environmental outcome.

According to the official report, the Odisha Water Academy will be set up as a Centre of Excellence which will operate as the pioneering training and capacity building institution in the field of water and wastewater service provision.

Pratap Jena, Minister of Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) informed that the safe drinking water and wastewater service provision to each urban household in Odisha is the main precedence of the government. The academy will be advantageous to the personnel working under the Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO), Public Health Engineering Organisation (PHEO), Odisha Water Supply and Sewerage Board (OWSSB), and other related organizations promoting the sector and services for their capability development.

Pratap Jena further added that the training and capacity building to be initiated by the academy will be for both managers and workers and it will empower them to remain up-to-date with state-of-the-art, innovative, hi-tech technologies and advanced management skills to run the water and wastewater business in the State more efficiently than before.

The academy will be enrolled as a society following the Societies Registration Act, 1860, and would operate beneath the administrative control of WATCO. It would be conducted under its Memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations with a governing body supervised by the H&UD secretary-cum-chairman WATCO.
