A high-level committee headed by former Supreme Court Judge Justice Arijit Pasayat was established by the Odisha government on Thursday to oversee the inventory of treasures kept in the Puri Jagannath Temple’s Ratna Bhandar (treasury).
This occurred four months after the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee (SJTMC) approached the Orissa High Court, which ordered the state government to form a panel of this kind within sixty days. This twelve-member committee will supervise the inventory process of the jewels and other riches belonging to the Lords in the shrine’s treasury from the 12th century. Prominent cardiologist Dr. Ramakant Panda serves as the committee’s vice-chairperson.
Additional members of the group consist of Bidhubhushan Samal, the former Chief Minister of Allahabad Bank; AK Sabat, a chartered accountant; a representative of Puri King Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb; an official from the Archeological Survey of India; Durga Prasad Dasmohapatra, Madhav Chandra Mohapatra, Jagannath Kar, Ganesh Mekap, Puri Collector; and the Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA). The CMO announcement also stated that the SJTA head will serve as member-convenor.
