The Odisha Government is mulling issuing a special advisory for fast delivery e-commerce platforms, including Zepto, Blinkit, BigBasket, and JioMart, over concerns about their short delivery timeframes. Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena stated that the advisory will ask these platforms not to fix rigid time limits for delivery, such as 10 or 15 minutes.
“We will issue an advisory for the aggregators asking them not to fix any fixed time limit for delivery. They should not fix a 10-minute or 15-minute time limit for delivery. The delivery boys will be imparted special training on road safety,” Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena said.
The growing number of delivery riders enduring dangerous working conditions while trying to fulfill strict deadlines is the source of the government’s worry. These circumstances put individuals at risk for harassment, stress, and physical harm. The State Insurance Department for Labor and Employees has called for swift regulatory action to resolve these problems. Additionally, the advise will emphasize the importance of providing delivery staff with specialized road safety training. The government wants delivery personnel to be required to adhere to safety regulations, which include receiving adequate emergency response training.
Based on a letter from the Labour & ESI Department emphasizing the pressing need to safeguard the rights and lives of delivery workers, the Commerce & Transport Department will act promptly. It is anticipated that the guidance would provide respite to thousands of frontline delivery workers across the country.
