Odisha Min Credits Transparent Case Registration & Other Factors For Increased Crime Reporting

According to Tusharkanti Behera, minister of state for home, 58,164 theft cases, 12,607 robberies, 6,977 murders, 54,789 car accidents, and 26,354 suicides were all reported in Odisha in the previous five years between 2018 and 2022. The information was provided by the Minister in a written response to a question posed by Congress MLA Jatni Suresh Kumar Routray.

The Minister credited the transparent registration of cases, education and awareness, proper implementation of the government’s 5T initiative and “Mo Sarkar,” zero tolerance of police for crimes against women, growth in population, and increased registration of industrial cases with the notable increase in crime reporting in the State over the past five years.

This, according to Behera, also demonstrates the victims’ tremendous trust in the administration of justice. Behera noted that as part of the “Mo Sarkar” program, input is also gathered from individuals who go to police stations to file complaints. According to him, steps are being done to fill open positions as soon as possible through fresh hiring and promotions.
