Bhubaneswar: Odisha is taking its investment ambitions beyond Indian borders as Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi prepares to lead a high-level delegation to Dubai for a two-day Investors’ Meet on September 8 and 9.
The outreach is part of the state government’s larger strategy to attract foreign direct investment and position Odisha as an emerging industrial powerhouse with opportunities across both traditional and new-age sectors.
At the Dubai meet, the Odisha delegation is expected to showcase investment opportunities in metals and downstream manufacturing, petrochemicals, green energy and green hydrogen, food processing, textiles and apparel, electronics system design and manufacturing, ports and logistics.
Dubai has been strategically chosen for the outreach because of its position as a major global business hub and a gateway to the wider Middle East and North Africa region. The visit is expected to include business-to-government engagements with leading industrial groups and investors.
The Dubai push comes after Odisha’s sustained investment outreach across major Indian business centres, including Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Vadodara and New Delhi. In August, the state’s Delhi-NCR industrial outreach secured investment proposals worth ₹66,392 crore, with the potential to create more than 54,000 jobs, according to the Chief Minister’s Office.
Odisha has also been strengthening its economic engagement with the UAE. In July, IPICOL signed an MoU with Abu Dhabi-based International Holding Company for a mega integrated aluminium project involving an investment of around ₹1.10 lakh crore, underlining the state’s efforts to attract large-scale international capital.
Now, the government is looking to build on that momentum.
For Odisha, the Dubai Investors’ Meet is more than an overseas roadshow—it is a statement of intent. With its mineral resources, long coastline, port infrastructure and growing focus on clean energy and value-added manufacturing, the state is seeking to move from being known primarily as a resource-rich economy to becoming a larger destination for global industry and long-term investment.
The key question, however, will be whether the Dubai outreach can translate conversations and investment intentions into projects on the ground.
As Odisha takes its growth story to one of the world’s most influential business hubs, the state is making its pitch clear: the next phase of its industrial journey is global.
