Bhubaneswar, September 19, 2026: Odisha is set to develop an 870-acre technology hub at Naraj near Cuttack, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announcing plans to position the area as the state’s own “Silicon Valley” for semiconductor, electronics and information technology projects.

Majhi made the announcement during SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi, where Odisha showcased its growing semiconductor and electronics ecosystem. The proposed Naraj hub is expected to bring together semiconductor manufacturing, electronics, IT projects and allied industries.

According to the state government, Naraj’s location along the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar urban corridor, combined with access to major ports such as Paradip and Dhamra and key national highways, could support the development of semiconductor supply chains, logistics and related industries. Its proximity to the Mahanadi also provides a potential advantage for industrial water requirements.

The announcement comes as Odisha intensifies its efforts to attract investments across the semiconductor value chain. At SEMICON India 2026, the state received investment proposals worth around ₹23,600 crore, with the potential to generate approximately 6,100 jobs, according to reports.

The state has also expanded its policy support for the sector. Under a recent amendment aligned with India Semiconductor Mission 2.0, Odisha has offered an additional 25% fiscal support on eligible capital expenditure for approved projects in areas including semiconductor equipment, semiconductor-grade gases, raw materials and supply-chain segments.

Majhi said the objective is to build an ecosystem where both Indian and global technology companies can manufacture, innovate and expand in Odisha. The state also signed a letter of intent with QuadQuantum for a facility producing silicon carbide substrate wafers.

The proposed Naraj hub therefore represents a broader shift in Odisha’s semiconductor strategy—from attracting individual projects to developing an integrated ecosystem covering manufacturing, supply chains, logistics, research and skilled manpower.
