Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the monthly programme ‘Mann Ki Baat will talk about Chittaranjan Bhoi from Cuttack who recently received a call from the Prime Minister’s office.
According to the reports, Chittaranjan, popularly known as Kanhu Bhai, excels in giving shape to coconut shells. He collects the thrown coconuts and creates artefacts, he first made buttons out of coconut shells on an experimental basis and then he made teacups and other things. Then once he is done with giving a shape to the shells he polishes the final product using sandpaper.
The proud and treasured moment in Kanhu bhai’s life is the day when members of the West Indian cricket team during their last visit to Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium for a match had sipped tea in cups made of coconut shells by him. Kanhu bhai, who had an interest in drawing in his childhood, used to draw motifs on walls typically associated with marriages in Odisha.
