Krishan Kumar, Secretary, Works Department
He’s not just the functional head of Odisha’s works department. His nominal job profile may be the abundant commitments of the state where he is so passionately involved. Krishan Kumar(Power in Myriad Roles), a 2002 batch IAS officer, is quietly spearheading a transformation especially in the Twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. These days, Kumar (Power in Myriad Roles) is so conspicuously seen accompanying the all-powerful mandarin and 5T secretary VK Pandian. Be it the implementation of a profusion of government-sponsored schemes or surveillance to stem corruption, Kumar (Power in Myriad Roles) is carrying out all responsibilities with elan.
More recently, when Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik visited his birthplace Cuttack and announced a bevy of development-oriented schemes, Kumar was there to map out the vision and details. Patnaik announced a package for the special development of Cuttack city including the expansion of ring road into six-lane and renovation of SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Announcing the package during his visit to the city on the occasion of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose birth anniversary, the Chief Minister said that the reclamation of land from river Mahanadi has created a once in a lifetime opportunity to breath fresh life into the core of the ancient city, Cuttack.
In the execution of all the announced schemes, Kumar is anticipated to play a critical role. His dynamism and go-getter attitude will be indispensable to setting the planned projects on track.
Lately, Kumar (Power in Myriad Roles) was part of Pandian’s entourage when the former visited the SCB Medical College, Cuttack to take stock of the healthcare facilities at the government-run institution. Infrastructure upgradation and expansion work of the hospital has hit a wall due to encumbered 25 acres of land. Kumar (Power in Myriad Roles) has to play a signal role in ensuring this roadblock is overcome and the activity is commissioned by the end of February this year. There are also plans for the construction of a three-lane road on both sides of the Talatanda canal for a stretch of 2 kilometers which will be adjoining State’s premier hospital. Some quarters of SCB will also be shifted for this purpose so that the work can begin in March.
Kumar (Power in Myriad Roles) is an officer who has switched roles with consummate ease. Among his most laudable roles is his tenure as the Vice Chairman of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Managing Director of Bhubaneswar Smart City Ltd. Kumar (Power in Myriad Roles) has been instrumental in successfully organizing the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup, FEST (Bhubaneswar City Festival) and implementing MO Bus and MO Cycle schemes, apart from several other projects.
Later, when the state government needed an efficient officer to handle the onerous work of disbursements to farmers under Krushak Assistance for Livelihood Augmentation and Income Augmentation (KALIA) scheme, Kumar was appointed as the secretary of agriculture and farmers empowerment department.
Kumar (Power in Myriad Roles) has also served as the administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration in Puri. His myriad roles are a testament to the confidence and trust he evokes from the powers-that-be in Odisha.
