Private hospital in Bhubaneswar accused BSKY fraud

Charges have been brought against a private hospital in Balakati, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, alleging that it committed “fraud” and embezzled money given to multiple beneficiaries under the Biju Swathya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) without rendering medical care. The victims apprehended an intermediary involved in the scam. The middleman who was arrested has been identified as Himansu Das, a Jajpur resident who lives in Pataranga under the jurisdiction of Korei Police. He manages the hospital’s marketing department.

According to reports, a few days ago, Himansu held a health camp at Pataranga village and identified himself as a physician. More than thirty residents of the village received diagnoses for a range of conditions, some of which required surgery. They were all admitted to the hospital after that. Many of the patients were allegedly released from the hospital without receiving any kind of care or surgery.

But later on, it became clear that money intended for the patients under the BSKY had been withheld. Outraged by this, the BSKY recipients arrested the defendant. “The BSKY beneficiaries who were admitted to the hospital for treatment informed their families that they were not given food and treatment,” Pataranga Sarpanch Ranjan Das stated. They were forced to put their thumbprints on plain paper. Additionally, they claimed that money had been taken from their BSKY cards in amounts ranging from Rs 40,000 to other amounts.

However, the accused Himansu Das said that the hospital can only say why it has deducted the money from the BSKY cards and if it has done any treatment or surgeries.
