It is a proud day for the whole of Odisha and Odia people. Odia girl, Sherya Lenka an 18-year-old teenager has become the first Indian K Pop Star. She has made it to Blackswan, an immensely popular South Korean K-pop girl group. Having Lenka in its band, ‘Blackswan’, the heartthrob among youngsters, has its first-ever India star.
Lenka and Gabriela Dalcin (19) the 5th and 6th members of the K-pop girl group, announced DR Music, the promoter of Blackswan on Thursday. While Lenka and Gabriela underwent intense training starting from vocal, rap, and dance lessons to playing musical instruments, language, and personal training, the duo will be in Seoul for the next few months for further training so that the group will release its next album.
Lenka and Gabriela were chosen from among 4,000 applicants who participated in a YouTube program that began in 2021. For the second round, Lenka and 22 others were qualified. Lenka too shone in the second round to secure her place in the Top 4.
Lenka, daughter of Abinash Lenka and Priya Lenka, is an artist to her fingertip. Besides being a trained Odissi classical dancer, she is also a freestyle, hip-hop, and contemporary dancer. She has not only participated in several regional and national dance competitions but also won awards and appreciation.
