The government research ship “Samudra Kaustubh,” with 25 crew members, were stranded in the Bay of Bengal when storm “Hamoon” caused severe seas that caused an engine malfunction.
The engine had failed, leaving the directionless vessel floating aimlessly in the middle of the sea. The Indian Coast Guard acted quickly to launch a rescue effort as soon as the tragedy became public.
INS “Amogha” was called in by the Indian Coast Guard to come to its aid.
According to sources, the Coast Guard vessel “Samudra Kaustubh” is towing the vessel to shore and is expected to arrive at Paradip harbor by Wednesday evening.
