RTI Activists Booked For ‘Fake Info’ On V K Pandian Security

On suspicion of spreading false and deceptive information regarding the security cover given to BJD leader and Nabin Odisha chairman V K Pandian, three people have been charged. A case has been filed at Saheed Nagar police under IPC sections, including those pertaining to cheating and forgery, as well as the Information Technology Act against Prakash Das, Srikant Pakal, and Pradip Pradhan of Odisha Soochana Adhikar Abhijan (OSAA), a forum for the state’s RTI advocates.

At a press conference on March 29, the trio claimed to have secured an unprecedented number of security officers to safeguard Pandian. They cited an undated document obtained by RTI from the Commissionerate Police. They claimed that his 74-person group outnumbered even Z+ cover’s 55 guards. After that, the BJP petitioned the election authorities to have Pandian’s “unnecessary security benefits” revoked.

Sanjeeb Panda, the commissioner of police for Twin City, described the letter as fake and falsified. “As stated by the RTI activists, we have not released any information under the RTI Act on the security cover given to the chairman of 5T. An inquiry is underway and a case has been filed,” he stated. Prateek Singh, the DCP of Bhubaneswar, had already informed the media that the accusation lacked validity.
