Senior advocate Jagannath Rath has been named State Information Commissioner of the Odisha Information Commission by the Odisha government. On February 1, the Directorate of Information and Public Relations sent out a letter informing him of his position. “I am directed to inform that Governor of Odisha has been pleased to appoint you as State Information Commissioner of Odisha Information Commission as envisaged under Section 15 (3) of the Rights to Information Act, 2005.”
Rath will be joining Balkrushna Mahapatra and Sushant Kumar Mohanty as Commissioners at the Odisha Information Commission. Rath is the honorary legal advisor to the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri. He has been practicing law for more than 25 years. His parents are the younger brother of Justice (Retd) Biswanath Rath and the youngest son of freedom fighter and senior counsel of the Orissa High Court Bipin Behari Rath. He had also advised the Odisha Revenue Board on legal matters.
