The injured tusker in Chamakpur forest under Champua range which was undergoing treatment since October 26, succumbed today. The sick elephant died after being attacked by another tusker.
The elephant had quit it’s herd after sustaining an injury on the front right leg. The forest department personnel spotted this tusker limping in the forest and started its treatment.
A team of experts from WTI, OUAT and Nandankanan, 6 veterinarians along and other staff, rescued the elephant and started its treatment.
The treatment was being supervised by Keonjhar DFO, 2 ACsF, Rangers, and other forest staff. However, on Wednesday, the tusker died in a clash with another elephant, reports stated.
