The most arduous project for the Jagannath Temple, Puri Srimandir Heritage Corridor which will give the shrine a complete makeover to the temple surroundings and advancement of facilities for the pilgrims has been finally approved.
This is the most ambitious project of the Odisha Government and it has finally got the green signal from the temple management. The proposed architectural design of the project has been approved by a meeting chaired by Committee chairperson Gajapati Maharaj Divya Singha Deb.
As per the officials, a 55 meter stretch of the 75-meter corridor will be announced with no parking and no vehicle movement zone. The road will be constructed from the zone and battery-run vehicles will be included on the range for the devotees to shuttle to the shrine and the services will be free of cost for the pilgrims.
The report further elaborates that a Sri Jagannath reception center will have a capacity of 6,000 devotees which will be built in an open space for queue management. Other features of the heritage corridor like luggage scanning system, the main cloakroom for keeping belongings, drinking water facilities, washrooms, places for washing hands and feet. Even a book shop will also be set up at the reception center which will provide mementos and other books and journals on Jagannath culture.
Other amenities like a mini cloakroom, shelter pavilion, ATM kiosk, Bhajan and Sanskriti Mandap, separate toilets for servitors and devotees, police service center, information center, and donation kiosk will also be worked in the project.
