Senior IAS officer Suresh Chandra Mahapatra is expected to become the next Chief Secretary of Odisha as per the sources. Mahapatra is on the pacemaker to become the top administrator of Odisha.
Asit Tripathy is the current Chief Secretary of Odisha and with his same 1989 batch mate – IAS officer Suresh Mahapatra is all set to success his place. According to the sources Asit Tripathy is to retire at the end of December, and later Mahapatra will take his position as the Cheif Secretary of Odisha.

Apart from Mahapatra, some other senior officers are also considered for the post of Chief Secretary by the state government like from the same batch of 1987-Rajesh Verma who is currently on central deputation. He is serving as Special Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare. He was even the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik before joining Central Government in August 2019.
The State Government is yet to decide to seek repatriation of Rajesh Verma’s service as he still has four years in Government service. To which it is assumed that Mahapatra will take over the post from Ait Tripathy.
