Over 5 lakh students in the State will receive one pair of casual dresses and a sweater from the ST&SC Development Department in an innovative effort to improve the comfort of boarder students’ stays in residential schools and hostels throughout Odisha during the winter.
The program will benefit 1,76,748 boarder students staying in hostels attached to S&ME Department schools in the State and 3,28,171 boarders staying in hostels attached to SSD Department schools. It is being implemented for the first time under the Entitlements and Amenities Guidelines of the SC/ST Development, Minorities, and Backward Classes Welfare Department.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary SC/ST Development, Minorities, and Backward Classes Welfare Department Roopa Roshan Sahoo stated that this year’s distribution of sweaters and casual clothing to ST&SC boarder students is in addition to the other benefits and privileges granted to the boarders in previous years.
Manoharika Pradhan, a student of Class X with Government Girls High School, Raikia in Phulbani district said, “This initiative is a welcome gesture by the State Government to many students like me as the winter days in our region are quite challenging. This will help us all in a great way.”
