Three “murders” in a day in Bhubaneswar; husband detained

In the past 24 hours, three alleged murders have reportedly occurred in the capital of Odisha. Following the murder of a 3-year-old girl by rape, a woman was stabbed to death, and another woman was discovered dead in the Punama gate area under the jurisdiction of Airfield police under suspicious circumstances. The deceased woman, identified as 30-year-old Priyanka Mishra, was a native of Kendrapada.

Priyanka married Suraj Das of Arabinda Nagar here approximately 2.5 years ago, according to sources. Her family claimed that her in-laws were aborting her pregnancy and torturing her physically and psychologically in order to get the dowry. However, Priyanka’s father-in-law Pradeep Das claimed that Priyanka’s suicide was caused by her alleged relationships with other men.

The deceased woman’s sister, Bini, told the media that she had informed Suraj about his extramarital affairs. “When his parents pushed him, he would shut the room and beat her while inebriated. They told us she had passed away at 7:30 p.m. That she killed herself by hanging while wearing a stole like this is unfathomable. Her neck is unmarked, and the bed was also close by. Everybody is lying. We believe that after imprisoning her in a room, they severely beat her before suffocating her to death with a pillow, the woman claimed. She also accused her friend Santosh Lenka, Majulata Das, and Pradeep Das of being the culprits.

At Capital Hospital here, Priyanka was declared dead, according to Additional DCP Prakash Chandra Pal. Based on a complaint from her family, we have opened a case under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and have taken her husband into custody to question him. The couple was at odds with one another,” he continued.

Regarding the reported rape-murder of the young girl, Pal stated that it is premature to declare the victim to have been raped. “The accused is a distant relative and neighbor; three teams have been formed to track him down, and they will apprehend him shortly.”A case has been filed in accordance with Section 302 of the IPC, and a thorough investigation is underway. She was slashed in the throat with a sharp object,” he said.

In the Gothapatna case, the police officer stated that after her husband had gone outside to get water, the woman was attacked by some miscreants. It is still unknown why she was attacked and why she died afterward. It might be related to a rivalry in the workplace or a family dispute. He said, “Chandaka IIC is looking into the matter.
