The District Collectors of Koraput, Nabarangapur, Malkangiri, and Dantewada have received a warning from the Superintending Engineer of the Upper Kolab Head Works Division in Kolabnagar regarding a possible water leak from the Upper Kolab Reservoir. In order to prevent overflow and guarantee dam safety, authorities are thinking of opening the spillway gates now that the reservoir’s water level has reached 856.84 meters.
To protect villages downstream, district collectors have been directed to take the appropriate safety measures. Authorities are acting quickly in response to this situation, which occurs as the reservoir’s water level keeps rising. In order to reduce possible hazards and avoid flooding in low-lying regions, the decision to release water was made.
“In inviting a kind reference to the subject cited above, it is to inform that theUpper Kolab Reservoir has reached at R.L.856.84m at 7.00 PM on dtd 02.10.2025, having a live storge capacity of 88.25%. Also, due to incessant rainfall in the catchment area, thereservoir level of the Upper Kolab Reservoir is in rising trend. In this connection, it is to bring your kind notice that, the full reservoir Level of Upper Kolab Reservoir is 858.00 m corresponding that the same may reach shortly, if the present intensity of rainfall continues in the Catchment Area. So, it is proposed to release the water from the reservoir through spillwaygates of Upper Kolab Dam as a precautionary measure at any moment”, read the notification issued by the Superintending Engineer of Upper Kolab Head Works Division.
