Odisha has been successfully earning prestigious places in various fields, and now one more is added. Ten-year-old Dubai based Odia girl, Tisya Panigrahi from Sambalpur has become the youngest Odia scuba driver. She completed her Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) in Junior Open Water Diver’s course.
PADI is termed as the world’s most extensive scuba diving training and certification organization. After finishing the course, Tisya acquired the tag making Odisha proud. She studies at Raffles World Academy School in Dubai and has completed her 4th grade. She made significant accomplishments when she went to give a test diving into the Arabian Sea in the Gulf of Oman on the east coast of the UAE at Fujairah. In this test, besides Scuba diving, she also had to pass an initial endurance test included 10 minutes floating session. She then completed her certification dives to procure her license, and in her last training, she went down to 33 feet below the surface of the sea.
Her training program consisted of classroom sessions, training in the swimming pool, and four dives in the open sea in this four-day training program. She is the granddaughter of former Cabinet Minister Sriballav Panigrahi and educationalist Sunanda Panigrahi. She began her interest in scuba diving from her father’s experience as he is also a certified PADI diver. She waited to turn ten so that she can register for the driving course. She was trained by open water scuba training instructor and specialty instructor Domingo Jasareno Labitag at the AL Boom Diving School.
PADI was first founded in 1996 in Illinois. It is a System of diver education based on progressive training that introduces skills, safety-related information, and local environmental knowledge to student divers in stages. They have around 6600 dive centres and resorts and about 137000 professionals who have issued more than 27 million certifications worldwide.
