Veteran actress Surekha Sikri died at the age of 75 due to cardiac arrest in Mumbai. The news was confirmed by her manager in a statement where it stated that she passed away due to a cardiac arrest earlier this morning and that she was not in the best of her health for some time now.
Her manager quoted- “Three-time national award-winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram.”
According to the reports, last year she suffered a brain stroke due to which she was rushed to a hospital. In 2018, she also suffered a paralytic stroke. Later in 2020, she was admitted to the hospital after suffering a brain stroke. It was reported at the time that she was also going through a turbulent period financially, which she later denied.
Her manager informed that the actress has her own finances and the family, including her son, is by her side. There is no need for financial assistance for now. Many of her well-wishers, colleagues and filmmakers were kind enough to offer financial assistance. They have been informed that the family is taking care of everything and giving her the best possible treatment.
In 1978, Surekha Sikri made her debut with Kissa Kursi Ka. Her works in the industry include Balika Vadhu, movie Badhaai Ho, Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani, Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil… Indumati Lala Mehra, Maha Kumbh: Ek Rahasaya, Ek Kahani, Saat Phere – Saloni Ka Safar, Banegi Apni Baat, Kesar, Kkehna Hai Kuch Mujhko, Saher, Samay, CID and Just Mohabbat, among others.
The veteran actress has won three national awards, including one for Badhaai Ho. Surekha has last seen in Netflix”s anthology Ghost Stories directed by Zoya Akhtar. She was married to Hemant Rege and they have a son together, Rahul Sikri.
