The Nandankanan Zoological Park is the most prominent tourist spot in the capital state reopened on 4th October, ready to introduce a zoo’s virtual tour by December 2020.
The authorities have decided to introduce a virtual tour that will provide a 360-degree view of the park, including zoo enclosure and exhibitions, through a dedicated web link. The foundation day is on 29th December, and the virtual tour is expected to be launched on the very same day. Due to the outbreak of coronavirus, the zoo was closed for seven months & reopened on 4th October, along with all necessary guidelines of COVID-19. It will be a replica of the zoological park involving the animals, botanical garden, and Kanjia Lake, consolidating a series of videos and still images. But till now, it is not clear whether the zoo authorities have planning to use other multimedia elements like sound effects and any sort of narration for the tour.
The virtual tour was planned nearly two months back, but because of the COVID-19, it was challenging to implement it. The zoo was closed due to the virus pandemic, so it was not possible to shoot, and then it was delayed. But now that the Government had given some relaxation, the work can continue, and the tour will be available on the Nandankanan Zoo’s official website.
The revamped toy train is expected to be launched on foundation day, even with the virtual tour. During the Fani cyclone, the toy train was seriously affected, and then further, the restoration was delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Around a cost of 4.75 crores is spent on the restoration work by a private firm.
Right now, the virtual tour is available in Alipore, Chhatbir, Chennai, and Lucknow zoo.
