Manish Agarwal(Walking the Talk) belongs to that rare species of bureaucrats and public servants for whom civility is not just sermonized but enacted in their day to day lives. He(Walking the Talk) hogged the limelight and grabbed reams of print space when his spouse delivered the baby at a government-run hospital.

A high profile government officer opting for the government hospital not only made rare news but won him a profusion of accolades.

His wife Sonam gave birth to their child at the district headquarter hospital at Malkangiri on July 4. The bureaucrat opting for a government hospital sends out a strong message apparently to dispel the common belief.

“It was a conscious decision. My wife was staying with me. So, we decided to get it done here. The health facilities, especially SNCU, at Malkangiri DHH are way better as compared to neighboring districts,” Manish Agarwal said.

We had done pre-natal check-ups at DHH only. Since facilities are comparable, we didn’t have to look for alternative options.

It has all turned to be very good, the District Collector added. Worth mentioning, affluents and highly-ranked government officers residing in the Maoist-infested district mostly prefer to visit Visakhapatnam for healthcare services.

The Steel City is, in fact, closer to many southern Odisha districts than any specialized health facility in the state.

Speaking on health facilities at government hospitals, Agarwal said: “I would like to assure people that our health facilities are good and they can have their confidence in it. The facilities are good and it will further improve in the future.”

Under Agarwal’s(Walking the Talk) dynamic leadership and stable administration, Malkangiri is scaling new heights of success. Recently, Niti Aayog, the Government of India think-tank rated  Malkangiri as one of the top three improved districts in agriculture.

In Odisha, Malkangiri has been ranked one among all the aspirational districts. Niti Aayog has launched the first Delta ranking (incremental progress) for the Aspirational Districts, based on self-reported data of districts between March 31, 2018, to May 31, 2018.

The data is being measured across five developmental areas of Health and Nutrition, Education, Agriculture, and Water Resources, Financial Inclusion and Skill Development, and Basic Infrastructure.

Malkangiri has shown the most improvement amongst all aspirational districts from Odisha and is rank 1 in Odisha. With an improvement of delta 8.1, it is ranked 27th in India.

“Focus on aspects like productivity, price realization, quality seed distribution, soil health cards and institutional support in form of crop insurance, AI, vaccination, etc has helped in improving income of farmers”, he said.
