A lady who claimed her husband perished in the horrible train accident in Odisha last week, in which almost 300 people perished, in order to collect lakhs in compensation granted by the national and state governments, is now hiding after her husband filed a police case against her.
She had a potential profit of $17 lakh, split between the offices of the chief minister Naveen Patnaik ($5 lakh), the prime minister Narendra Modi ($2 lakh), and the railways ministry ($10 lakh).
Gitanjali Datta of the Cuttack district of Odisha said her husband Bijay Datta had perished in the railway tragedy on June 2, and she even attempted to identify a body as her husband.
After checking the documentation, it was discovered that her allegation was untrue.
For trying to steal government funds and faking his death, Bijay Datta has requested harsh punishment for his wife. The spouse has been sent to the Bahanaga Station in the state’s Balasore district by the police officer in charge of the Maniabanda Station, where the three-way train disaster occurred and where the initial complaint was made.
