The Odisha Government approved proposals for the building up of the Bagchi-Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital & Research Institute and the Bagchi- Karunashraya Palliative Care Centre in Bhubaneswar.
According to the report, Subroto Bagchi, Skill Development Authority Chairman, and his wife have vouched to bestow Rs 340 crores to set up the world-class palliative care unit and a cutting-edge cancer hospital. The Odisha Government will contribute 20 acres of land for free at Infocity-Il in Bhubaneswar for the hospital.

The cancer hospital will be established by the Sri Shankara Cancer Care Foundation which is a charitable Bangalore-based institute with philanthropic practice. And the hospital will originally begin with 250 beds which shall be operational by January 2024. Later it will be enhanced into a 500 bedded hospital.
The report further stated that the cancer hospital will implement exceptional cutting-edge cancer care with evidence-based management of cancer cases. Around 25% of beds shall be arranged out for free treatment, while the other 25% beds shall be placed out for patients supported under different Government Health Schemes. The remaining 50% of patients will pay for the services and the revenue produced shall be used for augmentation and strengthening the underprivileged patients.

Even the Palliative Care hospital will be implemented with 100 beds which will later be elaborated and 100% of beds shall obtain free assistance. The Palliative Care Centre will accommodate holistic Palliative Care along with Pain Clinic, aseptic procedures, end of life care with empathy, and death with dignity.
