According to local authorities, flooding brought on by heavy rains in the eastern Nepalese district of Sankhuwasabha left at least one person dead and 17 others missing. According to district police officer Birendra Godar, three additional persons were hurt as the Hewa Khola river swelled on Saturday night as a result of heavy rainfall.
18 of them were employed by a hydroelectric facility being built at Hewa Khola that was swamped in floodwaters and seemed to be severely damaged, Godar added. The police official said that in addition to several residences, two motorable bridges, and some livestock animals were lost in the floodwaters, noting that the floods continued to rage until Sunday am, making the rescue effort challenging.
Around mid-June, Nepal’s annual monsoon season typically begins, bringing with it landslides and floods that claim lives and destroy property.
