In Odisha, shelters have been built for urban homeless people

To ensure that no one in need is abandoned in the street, Shelter for Urban Homeless has been established throughout the state. In a recent incident, it was discovered that some individuals were still sleeping on the footpath in the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) area, which was quite depressing. The patrolling crew that was established for the purpose has been activated for all ULBs.

The CMC SUH team, the State SUH team, and the NGO OPUS that works in this area met urgently on Sunday. The gathering was presided over by Sarada Prasad Panda, Director of the State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) and Joint Secretary for Housing and Urban Development. All ULBs have been given orders to activate their patrolling team, OPUS, engage the community partners, i.e. Mission Shakti SHGs, and make sure they are connected to the closest SUH after a thorough discussion of the situation.

By June 21, 2023, the CMC Cuttack team was instructed to develop an action plan for addressing this crucial issue in the city. They ought to begin acting on Sunday itself. The costs associated with this would be borne by the state government.

It was determined during the meeting that “Let’s do everything possible to take care of every shelterless person in the ULB areas of the state,” which was attended by Swetapadma Satpathy, Deputy Commissioner, CMC, her team, the State SUH Team, and NGOs.
