Recently tons of dangerous chemicals-laces spurious Paneer has been seized in Cuttack. The perilous Paneer seized has raised many questions to the district administration and the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) regarding the racket’s timeline.
After the racket, the local milk product makers have raised allegations to the authorities and the administration about the menace for more than five years now. Even the Cuttack District Milk and Milk Products Salesman Association had made an allegation that the racket runs profoundly along with the transportation of the spurious Paneer for sale in Cuttack as well as the other places openly for more than seven years now.
Pradip Behera, Association General Secretary, alleges that tonnes of spurious Paneer are being transported daily in private buses from Kolkata to Cuttack. Even the bus staff, driver, conductor, and helper are also involved with the matter. After the transportation, the artificial Paneer is marketed to some restaurants, hotels, and catering agencies who are also involved in the racket.
The association has submitted several complaints regarding this illegal activity where they ruin business of 5000 dairy farmers in the district and forced around 40 percent of them to leave the hereditary vocation for other livelihood activities to CMC and police. But even after the complaint, there was no step taken against the illegal trade.
As per the reports, around 50 to 60 persons are involved in transporting and marketing the artificial Paneer at Manguli square, of which a significant part comes under Tangi policy limits, and the rest is under Choudwar policy limits.
Prateek Singh, Cuttack DCP, stated that a special team had been formed to check deterioration, following which 21 fake manufacturing units were raided, 25 persons arrested and properties worth Rs 7.5 crore seized in the last two months. With the synthetic Paneer’s transportation and marketing connection, around ten local businessmen are under police scanner.
