The Odisha government organized ‘Subhadra Swagat Padayatra’ around the state on Sunday in anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s September 17 grand unveiling of the state’s flagship program. The Subhadra Swagat Padayatra was started by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida throughout all of the state’s revenue villages. To support the initiative aimed at empowering women in the state, more than 10,000 padayatras are being hosted around the state.
One of the main election promises made by the BJP is the Subhadra Yojana. The programme, which offers a five-year financial safety net and two equal installments of Rs 10,000 to every qualified women aged 21 to 60, aims to improve their financial and digital literacy. According to a department of Women and Child Development official, a significant awareness campaign has been launched to inform women about the project, its benefits, and the application process.
Coordinated by the departments of Women and Child Welfare and Mission Shakti, the state-level padayatra started at Giri Durga Temple and ended at Rama Devi Women’s University in Bhubaneswar. The Subhadra Yojana has registered almost 50 lakh women so far. According to Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, those who finish the registration process by this next Sunday, September 15, will receive the first installment following the Prime Minister’s September 17 introduction of the program. On International Women’s Day (March 8) and in honor of Raksha Bandhan, the funds will be credited to the recipients’ bank accounts. Under the initiative, they will receive Rs 50,000 in five years. September 1 was the start date for Subhadra Yojana registration. The cash assistance scheme for women will be rolled out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17.
