During an engagement between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Wednesday, two Indian army captains and two majors were killed, while a jawan was injured, according to officials.
Following information regarding the movement of a gang of terrorists in the vicinity, troops, including Special Forces, were sent to the scene. The commander of the Romeo Force of the Rashtriya Rifles and the 16 Corps Commander are keenly observing the actions.
According to them, there was a heavy gunfight in the area and more troops were being sent in to neutralise the two terrorists who were holed up there. It is thought that the two terrorists with heavy weapons are stranded in the forest.According to locals, there has been a search and cordon in place since Sunday in an effort to find terrorists that may be working there. The two terrorists imprisoned at the encounter site in Bajimaal, according to officials, seemed to be foreign nationals and had been roving the area since Sunday. They claimed to have even sought sanctuary at a nearby mosque.
Importantly, over the past two years, the Jammu border area of Rajouri-Poonch has been a hotbed of militancy, with multiple encounters ending in the deaths of ultras and security forces.Since October 2021, at least 28 army personnel—four of whom were officers and five of whom were paratroopers—have died against seasoned terrorists armed with advanced weaponry.
