The head of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the country’s most powerful investigative agency, has been vacant since March. Following the retirement of Rusi Kumar Shukla from the post of CBI chief, the central agency is looking for its new chief. The meeting is being held today to elect a new chief.
The meeting will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Along with him, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court NV Ramana and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury will also be present. So there are many candidates for the CBI post. BSF and Narcotics Control Bureau chief Rakesh Asthana and National Investigation Agency (NIA) chief Yasi Modi’s names have nominated for the post.
Tibetan Border Police Chief (ITBP) S Deswal is also nominated. Apart from these, Kerala DGP Loknath Behera and Uttar Pradesh Police Chief such as UP DGP HC Awasti are also said to be in the running to become CBI chief. Notably, the CBI chief post has been vacant since Rusi Kumar Shukla retired in March. After the CBI, the government will also have to find a new NIA chief. NIA chief Wasi Modi will retire later this month.
