Although no formal study of unlawfully constructed flats in the State has been carried out, up to 719 instances against illegal building construction have been reported in Bhubaneswar and other Odisha cities. This was disclosed in a written response to a question posed by Tara Prasad Bahinipati, a Congress MLA from Jeypore, in the Odisha Assembly on Tuesday. Mahapatra is the minister of housing and urban development (H&UD).
The Minister went on to say that the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) had registered 689 of these incidents. He noted that the Odisha Development Authority Act of 1982’s sections 90, 91, and 92 provided for legal action to be taken against people or organizations engaged in building projects that was not authorized.
