Commissioner for Development and Additional Anu Garg, chief secretary of the Water Resources Department, reviewed flood control in great detail with the department’s leading engineers. As to the official news release, Garg evaluated the current flood situation resulting from the discharge of floodwater from Hirakud reservoir through the opening of twenty gates and its influence on the downstream region. She emphasized the need to keep the Hirakud reservoir at the level recommended by the special technical committee established for that very reason.
Given the IMD prognosis for potential rain in the near future, the DC-cum-ACS examined the reservoir positions of all large and medium-sized irrigation projects around the State and has mandated that the water discharge from these reservoirs be closely monitored. She has also directed all dam authorities to adhere to SOP and to personally notify the district administration well in advance of the release of floodwaters via phone, WhatsApp, or email. It is the responsibility of all senior officials to advise their field-level counterparts to exercise caution in the event of flooding. The senior engineers of the Water Resources Department have also studied the flood scenario with DC- Cum- ACS Garg today. Everyone has been urged to remain vigilant during the flooding.
