99% fall in stone pelting incidents in Jammu and Kashmir

Since 2019, the number of stone-pelting incidents in Jammu and Kashmir has drastically decreased. Since the first half of 2020, the number of stone-pelting incidents in Jammu and Kashmir has reduced by 99%, according to data gathered by News 18. Local authorities in the first half of 2020 reported 324 or so occurrences of stone-pelting. There were 179 fewer of these occurrences the following year. The data reviewed by News18 shows that, similar to 2021, 50 and 3 events overall were reported over the same time in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

By 2023, there were 83 recovered grenades as opposed to 266 in 2020. According to data, Jammu and Kashmir was the source of 728 grenades and 102.75 kg of explosives that were confiscated between 2020 and the first half of 2023.Another encouraging aspect is that since 2020, the number of security personnel slain in J&K has drastically decreased, falling from 32 to 11.However, between 2015 and 2019 and 2019 to 2023, IED-related mortality dramatically surged by 73%, highlighting the intensification of these lethal attacks. IEDs (improvised explosive devices) continue to be a significant issue as the recoveries have increased.
