After nine years, an Odisha thief returns Lord Krishna’s gems with a message of repentance

A burglar who had taken Lord Krishna’s gems from the Gopinath Temple in Gopinathpur, Odisha, returned them after 9 years with a message explaining that ever since he had taken them, he had been plagued by nightmares.

It seems that the man had lately read the Bhagavad Gita and had come to his senses. The presiding deities Krishna and Radha owned the priceless jewels, which were theirs to keep.

The burglar, who sought to remain nameless, stated in a message, “throughout 2014, (from) a Yagna at Yagna Shala (where the rite of Yagna takes place), I had taken the ornaments for which I experienced a lot of troubles throughout these 9 years and I relinquish these.

He mentioned the priest Sri Debesh Chandra Mohanty as he placed the bag of jewels, which contained the stolen headgear, earrings, bracelets, and a flute, at the temple’s entrance. The unknown thief added in his apologetic message that he had left an additional Rs 300 as a penance in addition to the jewellery.
