Shashi Bhusan Behera, a senior BJD MLA, and his family have been accused of dowry harassment in Odisha. Ronali, the daughter-in-law of Behera, has reported the Kendrapara MLA and his family to the Banki police station. Despite the fact that the complaint was lodged on March 3 of this year, Ronali’s media appearance on Tuesday brought the situation to light. Ronali said in her complaint that her in-laws were torturing her and demanded Rs. 40 lakh. On March 3, 2021, Ronali wed Satyaprakash, the son of Behera.
“I’ve spent the last five months living there with my in-laws’ family. They just started harassing me 10 to 15 days after the wedding. According to Ronali, they demanded gold jewelry, money, and other valuables. She has also charged her spouse with having an extramarital relationship. Ronali said that on July 30, 2021, she told her father about their unrelenting physical and emotional torment. The following day, Ronali said that her father had taken her to her parents’ home. Ronali said that she was awaiting the arrival of her husband, who would then drive her back to his house. But nothing that she had anticipated occurred. She has officially filed a complaint with the Banki police as a result.
“A case has been opened at Banki police station based on Ronali Behera’s complaint. Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Banki Gyan Ranjan Mishra stated, “We have begun an inquiry into the crime. She has made accusations against her husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law, as well as other members of her in-law family. Sashi Behera, an MLA, is not the subject of any particular allegations, Mishra added. However, Sashi Behera, a former minister himself, denied Ronali’s claims and said that his son and daughter-in-law may have had some interpersonal issues.
Behera stated, “I never advocate dowry. The accusation of dowry torture is completely untrue. The people of Odisha know him very well. Even the invitations to my son’s wedding said that I did not want visitors to send presents.
