At the state dinner at the White House on Thursday, US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a few amusing exchanges. Both President Biden and Prime Minister Modi abstain from alcohol, so the former recalled his grandfather’s suggestions for making a toast without booze.
At the prominent gathering, where about 400 people were present, Biden spoke and recalled his grandpa Ambrose Finnegan’s advice: “If you propose a toast and there is no alcohol in the glass, you must do it with your left hand. You all believe I’m joking. I’m not.”
As the translator attempted to interpret it into Hindi, the visitors in the audience burst out laughing.”Jill and I had a great time today with the Prime Minister during your incredibly successful visit. “Tonight, we honour the deep friendship that exists between India and the United States,” remarked Biden.The US President and First Lady Jill Biden were praised by Prime Minister Modi for hosting the meal and welcoming him into their homes.
