An Indonesian cargo ship that was anchored at Paradip Port in Odisha yielded 22 kg of cocaine valued at ₹220 crore to officers from the Odisha Police, Central Industrial Security Force (CIDSF), and Customs.
The Indonesian bulk carrier MV Debi, which anchored at the Paradip International Cargo Terminal berth on Wednesday, was en route to Denmark to retrieve steel plates, according to customs officials in Bhubaneswar. The authorities, accompanied by a dog squad, raided the ship on Thursday after a crane operator on board noticed some suspicious packets on board. The packets were seized.
The packets initially appeared to be explosive devices. However, upon scanning the packets, they discovered that the contents were drugs hidden within tiny, rectangular packets. A preliminary narcotics test that we performed verified that the contents were cocaine. The packets were intercepted, and the sample was sent to a government laboratory for additional testing, according to Bhubaneswar customs commissioner Madhab Chandra Mishra.
In the global market, one kilogram of cocaine is valued at ₹10 crore. Mishra stated that more arrests would probably be made and that the crew members of the ship would be questioned regarding the cocaine.
