In the Nabarangpur district of Odisha, police detained the branch manager of IDBI Bank on suspicion of embezzling Rs 1 crore from the institution. On December 1 and 2, more than Rs 1 crore was deposited in the IDBI Bank branch located in Nabarangpur, according to police sources. According to regulations, money over Rs 1 crore must be deposited in the State Bank of India’s currency chest rather than kept in the branch vault (SBI).
Anjan Kumar Satpathy, the bank’s branch manager, deposited Rs 1 crore in cash into the SBI currency chest by the regulations. However, on December 15, an internal audit discovered a Rs 1 crore disparity in the bank’s accounts. Divisional General Manager (DGM) Swarup Dutta visited the branch after learning from bank officials about the missing cash and immediately began an investigation.
Dutta confirmed the missing money and he complained to the police station in Nabarangpur. Satpathy was arrested and questioned by the police. According to Nabarangpur SDPO Krushnachandra Bhatra, Satpathy was taken into custody by the police on Tuesday after being questioned.
