With an illustrious career spanning over 28 years in hospitality, Souvagya Mohapatra’s journey embodies the zenith of excellence. Commencing his voyage after completing a hotel management course from the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) and an MBA in Marketing, he embarked on his professional voyage at The Oberoi Group. However, it was his tenure at Mayfair Hotels & Resorts in 1994 that set the stage for his evolution. Witnessing Mayfair’s growth from a single property to a constellation of twelve luxurious hotels, Mohapatra attributes his success to the unwavering support and mentorship of Shri Dilip Ray, Chairman of the MAYFAIR Group.
“I owe my growth to Mayfair, where I was nurtured and given the freedom to express my ideas. I am deeply grateful to Shri Dilip Ray for his invaluable guidance,” reminisced Mohapatra fondly.
Embracing New Frontiers
In December 2020, Souvagya Mohapatra embarked on an entrepreneurial voyage as the Managing Director of Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts, spearheading expansion across India, Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Leveraging his industry acumen, he propelled the luxury resort brand to new pinnacles in the region. The group operates eight resorts in the Maldives and is poised for further expansion in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bhutan. OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI, the group’s flagship resort, recently clinched the title of the world’s best all-inclusive resort in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2023. Embodying the ethos of ‘Joy of Giving,’ Atmosphere Group stands as a beacon of service excellence and leisure experiences.
“Our pursuit is to explore and await the opportune moment in India. The country’s tourism potential presents a compelling investment opportunity. India’s tourism is on an upward trajectory, inviting global brands to leverage its potential,” emphasized Mohapatra.

Mohapatra’s dedication to hospitality has garnered recognition and accolades over the years. Conferred with the “Fellow of IIHM” by the International Institute of Hotel Management & International Hospitality Council, London in 2021, he received the ‘Honorary Diploma for Outstanding Contribution and Excellence in Tourism & Hospitality’ from the World Congress of Poets (WCP). Featured consistently in the Power List by Hotelier India, Mohapatra was honoured as the ‘Hotelier of the Year’ during BBC Good Food and ‘Food Food Awards’ in 2018.

A Vision for Tomorrow
As the architect of Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts’ future, Mohapatra envisions the O&M management contract as the bedrock of a robust business model. The group remains adaptable to hotel owners’ concerns, fostering beneficial partnerships. Identifying potential properties across India, particularly in strategic tourism destinations in Odisha, Mohapatra foresees the brand expanding to 25 properties by 2025.
With a keen eye for the right investment prospects, Mohapatra seeks destinations offering unique attractions, robust connectivity, and supportive policy frameworks.
A Man Beyond the Corporate
Beyond the confines of the corporate realm, Souvagya Mohapatra is a devoted family man. His close-knit family—comprising his mother, wife, and two daughters—holds a special place in his heart. Finding solace amidst nature, his beautifully tended terrace garden serves as a retreat where he unwinds and shares moments with family and friends.
“My terrace garden is my haven, where I declutter my mind, engage in discussions, and strike business deals. Amidst the pandemic, every evening here has offered me the sublime sight of the sunset against the serene Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary—a breathtaking panorama,” shared Mohapatra.
