Ranjit Buildcon Secures Contract for Bhubaneswar Metro Package BBC-03

Ranjit Buildcon Ltd. (RBL) has been announced as the lowest bidder for the construction of Package BBC-03 in the Phase 1 project of Bhubaneswar Metro. This package will extend from Trisulia Square to Biju Patnaik Airport, featuring 20 elevated stations.

The 7.122 km-long Package BBC-03 covers the southern part of the 26 km Line-1, connecting Capital Hospital to Acharya Vihar Square through six stations: Capital Hospital, Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vani Vihar, and Acharya Vihar Square.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had called for bids in March 2024, with an estimated cost of Rs. 630.65 crore and a 36-month timeline. Technical bids were opened on June 19, with all 12 bidders passing the technical evaluation. The construction will be funded by the Government of Odisha and the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL).

The specific locations of all stations are available on Google Maps. The Biju Patnaik Airport Metro Station and its connecting viaduct will be part of a separate package, pending design approval from the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

Ranjit Buildcon’s bid of Rs. 561.21 crore, which is 11.01% below DMRC’s estimate, is expected to secure the contract in the upcoming weeks, with minimal delay in the financial bid evaluation.

With this development, I anticipate that preliminary ground work will commence by the end of September, with full-scale construction expected to begin in mid-Q4, around November to December.Technical bids for Packages BBC-04 and BBC-05 (covering Acharya Square to KIIT Square and Phulapokhari) were opened on June 19, and their evaluation is currently in progress. I will provide updates on the winners once the financial bids are opened, which should be soon.
