BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, along with Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja and Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania, will participate in a crucial review meeting on Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) in New Delhi on Monday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the high-level meeting, which will be held at Vigyan Bhawan.
The review session will be attended by the Chief Ministers of several states affected by LWE, including Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. These states have been dealing with insurgencies led by extremist groups, and the meeting aims to assess the current situation, review ongoing operations, and strengthen counter-insurgency strategies.
Five Union Ministers, whose ministries play a significant role in providing developmental support to LWE-affected regions, will also be present. Their participation underscores the government’s commitment to a holistic approach that balances security measures with economic development in these vulnerable areas.
In addition to top political leaders, senior officials from the Centre, states, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) will be part of the discussions. The focus will be on reviewing the efforts to combat extremism, examining challenges faced by security forces, and ensuring that developmental initiatives reach the affected regions efficiently.
Odisha, a key state in the fight against LWE, has made significant progress in curbing insurgent activities through both military operations and welfare programs. Chief Minister Majhi’s government has prioritized a two-pronged strategy, combining law enforcement efforts with socio-economic development to weaken the extremist influence.
The review meeting is expected to result in renewed policies and strategies to address the persistent threat of LWE across the country, with a focus on improving coordination between the Centre and states, enhancing security measures, and fast-tracking developmental projects in affected areas. The outcome of the meeting could significantly shape the future of counter-insurgency efforts in India.
