Odisha Cabinet Approves Additional Subsidy For Rooftop Solar Projects

The Odisha Cabinet approved an additional subsidy for rooftop solar projects in the state on Friday, marking a significant step towards promoting renewable energy and supporting the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Mufti Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY). The goal of the decision is to promote solar energy adoption among residential homes and housing societies, lessen reliance on traditional electricity, and help achieve carbon neutrality.

The Odisha Government will provide an additional subsidy of Rs 25,000 per kilowatt for rooftop solar installations up to 2 kilowatts per household. For the third kilowatt, an additional subsidy of Rs 10,000 will be offered. Group Housing Societies (GHS) and Residential Welfare Associations (RWAs) will also benefit, with financial assistance of Rs 18,000 per kilowatt for projects up to 500 kilowatts (with a maximum of 3 kilowatts per household) for EV charging and general electricity usage.

The project would benefit over 3 lakh household energy users in Odisha and will be implemented over three years, from 2024–2025 to 2026–2027. The state government will have to pay Rs 1,800 crore for it. It is anticipated that this subsidy will hasten domestic solar energy adoption, paving the way for a more sustainable and greener future.
