Bhubaneswar: Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar has launched its new Diabetic Care Clinic, aimed at tackling the rising diabetes burden in Odisha. The clinic is designed to offer a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to diabetes management, focusing on “smart sugar control” through early detection, continuous monitoring, and preventive care. The initiative is a significant step toward addressing the state’s growing diabetes crisis, with more than 5 million individuals currently affected.
The clinic, inaugurated on April 15, 2025, by Dr. Sudhakar Kantipudi, Cluster Director of Manipal Hospital (South-East Zone), is part of Manipal Hospitals’ commitment to improving healthcare in the region. It was launched in the presence of Dr. Saktimaya Mohapatra, Hospital Director of Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar, and prominent diabetologists Dr. Ankita Tiwari and Dr. Ritesh Agarwal. This development comes at a time when Odisha is experiencing a sharp rise in diabetes cases, with more than 5 million people currently living with the condition.
According to hospital officials, nearly 70% of those affected by diabetes in Odisha struggle with poorly controlled blood sugar levels, creating a pressing need for better diabetes management solutions. Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar’s Diabetic Care Clinic aims to meet this need with a holistic, patient-centric model that integrates a wide range of services. These services include annual screenings for heart, eye, and foot health, bi-annual tests for kidney function, liver function, and cholesterol, and quarterly HbA1c evaluations to monitor long-term glucose control. Additionally, the clinic includes preventive care, offering timely vaccinations to reduce infection risks, which is crucial for diabetic patients who are more vulnerable to infections.
Dr. Saktimaya Mohapatra, Hospital Director of Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar, commented on the significance of the clinic’s launch: “Given the alarming rise in diabetes cases, particularly in Odisha, our goal is to set a new standard for diabetes care. The Diabetic Care Clinic offers personalized treatment and continuous support to empower patients and help them better manage their condition.”

Dr. Ritesh Agarwal, another expert at the clinic, highlighted the serious complications that can arise from poorly managed diabetes, such as kidney failure, heart disease, and nerve damage. “It is essential for patients to receive accurate information and consistent support, and that is what we are committed to providing at the clinic,” he added.
