With over three decades of industrial leadership and a deeply impactful role in academic administration, he exemplifies the rare blend of practitioner insight and educational vision. As Secretary of Rourkela Institute of Management Studies (RIMS) and RIMS Group of Institutions—one of Odisha’s most reputed management institutions—Dr. Patnaik has become a transformative figure in the state’s educational ecosystem.
Before dedicating himself to academia, Dr. Patnaik built a formidable career in the corporate world, working with some of India’s leading companies across sectors. His early roles with Burn Standard Company Ltd., Kolkata, NICCO India, and Thermax Ltd. laid the groundwork for his rise to key leadership positions, including Vice President at Alliance Power Co. and Resident General Manager at Monnet Ispat and Energy Ltd. He also held influential roles under the Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha (IDCOL), contributing significantly to the growth of major industrial units such as Hirakud Industrial Works and Hira Cement Works.
His international exposure—particularly as a liaison consultant for Tyazhpromexport, Moscow, Russia, and as the Indian Associate to RxOne, USA—offered him a global perspective that would later inform his academic philosophy. He is currently serving as Director of Macrosoft Associates Pvt. Ltd., the Indian associate to RxOne, USA, working in collaboration with Indian hospital industries toward healthcare innovation.
This rich and diverse industry experience became the bedrock for his transition into education, where he introduced a pragmatic, industry-aligned approach to management studies. He also served as an Ex-Member of the Policy Planning Board, Department of Skill Development and Technical Education, Government of Odisha, where he contributed for many years to educational planning and reform.
At RIMS, Dr. Patnaik has cultivated a culture of innovation, inclusivity, and forward-thinking pedagogy. His influence extends far beyond campus boundaries. As a member of the Board of Management at Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) and the Board of Studies at Sambalpur University, he plays a pivotal role in shaping curriculum and governance in technical education across the state.
In his broader leadership roles—as President of the Odisha Management College Association and National Vice President of the Centre for Educational Growth and Research (CEGR)—Dr. Patnaik has advocated for sweeping reforms in higher education. His vision emphasizes equipping institutions with autonomy and tools to innovate, driving skill development, and creating inclusive opportunities for students from marginalized backgrounds.
His impact is felt on the national stage as well. As National General Secretary of the Integrated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), New Delhi, he is a frequent speaker and thought leader at major education forums. Whether addressing topics like “Viksit Bharat through Education,” “Entrepreneurship – The Need of the Hour,” or “Curriculum and Exam Reforms,” Dr. Patnaik brings clarity, depth, and actionable insight to every dialogue.
His academic contributions are equally commendable. He has authored numerous research papers, including his recent work on “supplier development in manufacturing supply chains.” His writings frequently appear in Outlook Business, Business Today, CEO Insights, and other reputed journals. As editor of a special issue of the International Journal of Research and Development – A Management Review, he continues to inspire academic discourse on emerging trends in management and technology.
Over the years, Dr. Arya Patnaik has been widely recognized for his exemplary leadership and transformative contributions to education. His accolades include the Iconic Leader of the Year 2024 and the Visionary Leader of the Year 2023 by CEGR, as well as the National Pride of the Year 2023 by ICCI. In 2022, he was honoured with the Visionary Leader of the Year by ICCI and the Outstanding Leader of the Year by CEGR for his contributions to education, skill development, and research. He also received the Utkal Samman Award 2022 and the Utkal Vikas Ratna Award 2015 for his visionary leadership in professional education.
