Lokesh Kanagaraj’s highly anticipated ensemble action film Coolie, led by superstar Rajinikanth, is gaining momentum ahead of its theatrical release on August 14. In a recent interview with Mid-Day, actor Nagarjuna shared intriguing insights about the film, including major revelations about his and Aamir Khan’s roles.
Nagarjuna, who plays the primary antagonist Simon in the film, confirmed that he will go head-to-head with Rajinikanth’s character. “It’s Rajini sir versus me. Playing the villain was an entirely new experience for me, and I had a blast doing it,” he said.
The actor also spoke about Aamir Khan’s role, revealing that the two don’t share screen space. “Aamir and I don’t have scenes together — we appear in different chapters of the story. But I watched his scenes later, and I must say, his performance is outstanding. You’ll see a completely new Aamir, and it will shock the audience,” Nagarjuna added.
The makers recently confirmed Aamir’s character as Dahaa, unveiling a monochrome poster of the actor in a rugged look — pipe in hand, wearing a vest and jeans — which generated massive buzz online.
While Nagarjuna refrained from divulging story details, he hinted at a plot centered around gold smuggling, aligning with previous teasers and promotional visuals. Despite Lokesh Kanagaraj’s reputation for interconnected films in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), Coolie is reportedly a standalone venture.
Produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures, Coolie boasts a star-studded cast including Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, Monisha Blessy, and Kaali Venkat. The film is set for a box office clash with War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji and starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR.
