Odisha has increased its efforts to improve irrigation infrastructure, reinforce flood protection, and expedite project implementation. At two separate sessions chaired by Engineer-in-Chief Dillip Kumar Rout, technical advisory committees approved a total of 85 projects. 38 proposals, comprising 31 flood control projects and seven drainage projects, were addressed during the State Flood Control Board’s 158th Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting, which was conducted in hybrid format. The suggestions, which came from several drainage divisions throughout the state, call for an estimated ₹653.99 crore investment.

Strengthening river embankments, protecting susceptible and flood-prone areas, and enhancing drainage systems to improve the state’s flood preparation were the main topics of debate. During the fiscal year 2026–2027, the Department has convened seven Flood TAC meetings thus far, demonstrating a focus on accelerating the evaluation and approval of flood management projects.

In addition, Rout chaired the 162nd Technical Advisory Committee meeting on irrigation projects, which was held in hybrid format. 47 proposals pertaining to significant in-stream storage facilities and associated infrastructure projects were approved by the committee. It is anticipated that the planned improvements will strengthen the current water distribution system, increase irrigation efficiency, and encourage fair use of water resources throughout the state.
