After 20 Years Sasmit Patra Becomes First Odia MP To Chair Rajya Sabha

After 20 years Odisha MP Sasmit Patra presided over the Rajya Sabha proceedings of the Upper House. MP Patra made his debut as a vice-chairman of Rajya Sabha while addressing on the Epidemic Diseases (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 Bill.

All the MPs congratulated MP Samit on taking the chair. He is an academician turned politician and was one of the youngest parliamentarians to be nominated to the panel of vice-chairman of the upper house. When the session concluded, many Rajya Sabha members wished him and congratulated him for being the youngest MPs in the house. They also expressed that as being the youngest member, he will conduct the proceedings in a very pleasant and with persistence manner.

Patra stated that it is an honour and a proud moment for Odisha and its people to see an Odia preside over the House of Elders or Upper House in parliament. He also thanked his leaders & CM Naveen Patnaik and all the people of Odisha for supporting his in this journey to the Rajya sabha.

Sanatan Bisi was the last Odia member to have presided over the Rajya Sabha proceedings 20 years ago.
