Dr. PRABODH KUMAR MOHANTY, DIRECTOR (HR), ODISHA HYDRO POWER CORPORATION LTD.
Dr. Prabodh Kumar Mohanty is a seasoned and mature HR professional, who brings with him more than 35 years of enriching experience in the entire gamut of HR functions starting from formulation of HR Policies to Recruitment & HR Planning; from competency mapping to Performance Management and from Documentation to implementation of various Quality Assurance Systems. He is simultaneously an Expert in the fields of Strategic HRM, Corporate CSR activities, Compensation Management, Employee Relations, Statutory Compliances and Training & Development Initiatives. He has further worked as Corporate Trainer and HR consultants to various Industries of national repute including Mining sector, Manufacturing Sector as well as Corporate Sector.
Dr. Mohanty is currently working as the Director (HR) on the Board of Directors of Odisha Hydro Power Corporation Ltd., a Gold category State PSU functioning under the auspices of the Department of Energy, Govt. of Odisha. Besides, he is working as a Nominee Director on Board of Directors in other State JVs like OTPCL, BWCCL. He is also the Governing Body Member on behalf of the government in Govt. Polytechnic, Bhubaneswar. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Mohanty was working as the Vice President (Human Resource & Employees Relation) in OCL IRON AND STEEL PVT LTD (Amtek Group). During his tenure, he was heading HR, Administration, CSR & PR functions in OCL Iron & Steel Limited. He brings with him more than 35 years of qualitative experience in diversified HR disciplines. He has earlier served in various senior managerial positions (HR) in both public and private sectors such as Coal India Ltd., Paradeep Phosphates Ltd., Engineers India Ltd., NINL and Jindal Stainless Ltd. & Odisha Mining Corporation.

Dr. Mohanty is having keen interest and passion towards academics since he has served as Visiting Professor (HRM) at XIMB and Director, IBS. Presently, he is associated with School of Management, NIT, Rourkela as Adjunct Professor. Dr. Mohanty is a resource faculty to National Power Training Institute, Durgapur and NPTI, Shivpuri, IIMS, XIMB, Utkal University, Birla Global university and many other Institutes of repute. He has been actively associated with professional bodies like NIPM, ISTD, AIMA and QCFI. He is presently the Chairperson of ISTD Bhubaneswar Chapter.
Dr. Mohanty is post-graduate in PMIR from and did his Ph.D in Business Administration from Utkal University in 2008. Additionally, he has completed his LLB from Utkal University and Diploma in Training & Development from ISTD, New Delhi. He has presented more than 20 papers in National and International Conferences and has published eighteen research papers/articles in leading National and International Journals. It is note-worthy that he has published a book on “Strategic HRM-A New Perspective for Steel Industry” published by Himalaya Publishing House, Mumbai, which is very widely acknowledged and acclaimed among the HR professionals, students and Research Scholars. Under his active guidance, one scholar has already been awarded Ph.D. on the subject of “Capacity Building and Sustainability of Polytechnic Education in Odisha with special emphasis on employability Skills in Core Sectors”.
Dr. Mohanty has also made remarkable contributions to the field of CSR research activities. Dr. Mohanty in association with Prof (Dr.) Chandan Kumar Sahoo, NIT School of Management, Rourkela has accomplished two major sponsored research Projects on Impact Assessment Study of Corporate Social Responsibility Activities for Talcher and IB Coalfields of MCL from FY 2010-11 to FY 2014-15 and Impact Assessment Study of Corporate Social Responsibility Activities and Social audit of Community Benefit Measures of South Eastern Coalfield Limited, Bilaspur from FY 2010-11 to FY 2015-16 through NIT School of Management, Rourkela.
Dr. Mohanty is a well-known trainer in HR, OB, Industrial Laws, CSR and Strategic HRM. He has many awards and accolades to his credit. To describe in brief, he was the recipient of prestigious “AIMA Young Managers Award”, “NIPM Gold Medal for excellence in HR”, “Best Case Study Award on HR” from the Labour Commissioner, Government of Odisha.
Dr. Mohanty is very popular for his innovative strategic interventions in order to bring organizational change in OHPC in a short interval of time. During his tenure, he has successfully implemented Manpower Restructuring, 7th Pay for revision of Salary in respect of Executives and Wage Board in respect of Non-executives in OHPC. He has solved more than 35 Disciplinary cases in a record time. Under his active guidance, OHPC received the Kalinga Safety Award for strict adherence to plant safety norms. During the period, OHPC has been appreciated by the Government of Odisha for early disposal of Employee Grievances, timely RTI Compliances and amicable IR Situations. During the period the IR situation in OHPC changed from hostile to very cordial with zero man-days loss. For employee engagement drive, the first Inter-Unit Cricket tournament was organized to create a positive environment and unity among employees of OHPC.
