SA Bobde retirement: Centre asks Bobde to recommend next CJI’s name

The process of appointing the country’s next chief justice has begun. As a rule, the central government has written a letter to the current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice SA Bobde. In it, the central government has asked him to recommend the name of the country’s next CJI.

According to information received, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has written a letter to Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Justice S. Bobade. He asked who would be the 48th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court after him and recommended his name.

Justice Bobde, who now serves as the country’s CJI, will retire on April 23. Before his retirement, he would send the names of his successors to the Union Ministry of Law. The recommendation will be implemented with the approval of the Union Law Ministry. The letter of recommendation is scheduled to be sent to the central government by March 23.

The most senior judge of the Supreme Court after CJI Justice Bobde is Justice NV Ramna. In terms of seniority, Justice Ramna will be the next CJI. Justice SA Bobde will recommend his name to the Center.

Justice Ramna of 63 years old, has experience as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court and Acting Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
